A barcode is a network of Hardware and software,mainly consisting mobile computers,printers,hand held scanners,infrastructure and supporting software. There are two major classes of barcode scanners, they are - Image based scanner and laser based scanner. Image based barcode scanners use camera usually embedded in a barcode scanner. The camera will capture the image and proceed by the complex image technique to decode the barcodes. Laser based barcodes use mirrors and lenses to read the barcodes.
There is a wide range of hardware available in the market,which is used in Barcode Systems. Symbol is the renowned name in hand held scanners and mobile computers,which is a division of Motorola. Other manufacturers are Internec,HHP,Microscan,Unitech and PSC.
Software is more difficult to find as compared to Hardware, as there are many ERP,MRP and other Inventory management softwares designed to support barcode reading. Some softwares even allow to run directly on mobile computers.
There is a software known as RFgen,which allows the developer to easily produce custom mobile interfaces and that handle the connection to the database. Always there is an option of developing a custom software solutions. |
